Local Sports Roundup 2/7/13
Girls basketball

Regional championships are on the line Thursday in class 1A and 2A girls basketball around the state of Illinois. In Kewanee, the Knoxville Blue Bullets will take their shot at top-seed Peoria Christian. Coach Matt Gibson's team advanced to the title game with Wednesday night's 66-59 win over second-seeded Farmington. Peoria barely survived Kewanee's upset bid 55-52 in overtime. Elsewhere in class 2A: Sherrard plays Orion at Rockridge and Havana battles Illini West in Macomb. In class 1A play, the Abingdon Commandos will be looking for an upset when they host Lewistown tonight at 7:30. Also in class 1A: Annawan hosts Wethersfield, after the Braves ended ROWVA's season Wednesday night by a score of 67-20. And in Brimfield, a pair of 27-win teams will collide Thursday night as the hosts play Illini Bluffs.

Meanwhile, the regular season will conclude Wednesday evening for the Galesburg High School girls, who travel to Rock Island Alleman. The Silver Streaks, who beat the Pioneers 73-65 back on January 3rd, are trying to snap out of a 5-game losing skid. To accomplish that, they will have to slow down Alleman center Erin Morrisey, who scored 29 points against the Streaks in their previous meeting. Alleman enters the game at 15-13 overall, while Galesburg is 17-12. Broadcast time is 6:40pm Thursday on WGIL

Also in the Western Big 6 Thursday, Moline plays at United Township, and Rock Island looks to close out an undefeated conference season as they travel to Quincy.

Just one other game of note Thursday night shows the Galesburg Freshmen boys traveling to Dunlap.
