Local Sports Roundup 2/11/13

Girls Basketball Sectional basketball tournaments for girls class 1A and 2A teams will be held this week. One of those is at Orion High School, where the Knoxville Blue Bullets will play Sherrard Tuesday night at 6pm. The Bullets are still alive after winning last week's Kewanee Regional, while Sherrard easily took the championship at Rockridge. The two teams met on January 30th, with Sherrard winning 47-44. The Lewistown girls will play Monday night at the class 1A Mt. Pulaski Sectional. The Indians -- who won the Abingdon Regional last week -- will face the home team Monday at 8, following the early game between Illini Bluffs and Mendon Unity. In class 3A, the Galesburg girls will find out Monday who their opponent will be for Tuesday's Dunlap Regional opener. That will be determined by Monday evening's matchup between Geneseo and Chillicothe I.V.C. at 7:30. The Silver Streaks will then play the winner Tuesday at 6. Galesburg is the #1 seed. Should the Streaks win Tuesday, they would play either Alleman or Dunlap for the championship on Thursday night. Boys The only other item on the local sports schedule for Monday is the Galesburg Freshmen boys basketball game with Moline. GHS will host the contest starting at 6 o'clock.
