All of the area American Legion baseball teams will be busy this evening. Here in Galesburg, Post 285 welcomes Macomb for a doubleheader at Sundburg Field. Galesburg has a record of 14-3.
The other area teams will be on the road, as Oneida Post 727 travels to Peoria, and the Monmouth Legion heads north to play Rock Island.
The Knox County YMCA continues to have issues with it's pool, further delaying the re-opening of the facility. YMCA communications director Kelly Corbin reports that the pool is out of service until further notice. The repair team has been trying to coordinate the fixing of a faulty pump at the pool, but so far has been unsuccessful. YMCA members can continue to use the Warren County Y's pool in Monmouth, or the City of Galesburg's Hawthorne Pool.
The Quad City Mallards minor league hockey team is under new ownership. It was announced today that Boston Pizza Restaurants has purchased the Central Hockey League team. The Mallards are headed towards their 17th season in the Quad Cities, and their fourth in the CHL.
The franchise has been on shaky ground in recent years due to ownership changes and poor attendance. Jordan Melville, president of T&M Group---the owner of Boston Pizza Restaurants---said that after assessing the strength of the market and observing the team's performance since last October, that they felt strongly that the Mallards were an entity they want to own and operate in the Quad Cities.
