Most of the top teams in Illinois High School football fattened up on lesser opponents last weekend, so the new ratings look very similar to last week. In class 1A, the Stark County Rebels are rated #5, and face a big test this Friday night when they travel to Aledo, where Mercer County is rated #2 in class 2A. The game will likely decide the Lincoln Trail Conference championship.
Other area teams that are ranked in the class 2A poll include Rockridge at #5 and Elmwood/Brimfield at #9. The Trojans held their spot after rallying to hand Knoxville its' first loss 32-20 last Friday night.
A pair of Western Big 6 teams also stayed near the top of the rankings in their respective classes, as Rock Island is still #2 in class 6, and Alleman remains #2 in class 4A.....after the Pioneers dismantled Quincy last week.
The area volleyball schedule for tonight finds the ROWVA Tigers at home in Oneida to face the United Red Storm. ROWVA is coming off of their first Lincoln Trail Conference win earlier this week against Galva. Also tonight, Galva hosts West Central and Ridgewood is home to West Prairie.
The Carl Sandburg College Chargers will play again this evening, as they travel to Black Hawk East in Kewanee. The Chargers have won six of their last eight matches, including last nights 4-set win over Sauk Valley.
In Jr. High action, it was an all-Galesburg affair last night at John Theil Gymnasium, as Lombard defeated Churchill in both the 7th and 8th grade matchups.
In golf, the Lincoln Trail Conference tournament is being held at Gibson Woods in Monmouth. United is the host team for both the boys and girls events.
