Blago Says Little During Springfield Appearance
Gov. Rod Blagojevich Wednesday minded his manners, and ran the Illinois Senate for a brief time before senators elected State Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago) as the new Senate president. Some lawmakers had worried that the governor might do something to throw off the Senate schedule, since he'll face an impeachment trial later this month.

Blagojevich took less than two minutes to address the senators, encouraging them to work together on a troubling economy. He used a quote by Abraham Lincoln, presumably to soften the senators' outlook on his upcoming trial: "With malice towards none and charity for all, let us come together and get the business of the people done."

The governor's name didn’t even appear in the Senate inauguration program, and the governor left as soon as he handed the gavel over to the new Senate president. The Senate is serving the governor with a summons Wednesday afternoon.
