Durbin: Burris and I Are Partners; Ryan Not Getting Out of Prison
Former Gov. George Ryan may have less of a chance at getting out early because of the Blagojevich scandal. U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who asked President Bush to commute Ryan's sentence, says the Bush Administration has been asking questions about the corruption charges against Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Durbin, speaking Monday in Washington, says he thinks that may mean that it'll be harder to grant a commutation when the next Illinois governor is accused of scandal.

Blagojevich has been charged with corruption, and faces state Senate impeachment.

The president announced a series of pardons and commutations Monday, and Ryan was not on the list. The White House still has Tuesday morning to issue more, if it so chooses.

Also, Durbin says he'll work fine with fellow U.S. Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.), and is even willing to help Burris campaign for the 2010 election, if Burris decides to run. It was just last month that Durbin insisted that he wouldn't let a Blagojevich pick get into the Senate. Durbin insists that he was right in shunning any potential Blagojevich appointee, then backing Burris after the appointee testified before an Illinois House committee that there was no discussion of money or favors in relation to the U.S. Senate seat.
