Bill Cosby Speaks at King Day Gathering in Peoria
Some laughs, and some food for thought, followed the annual Martin Luther King Day luncheon in Peoria. The event, put on by a group of African-American public employees, features a big-name speaker, with Monday's guest being Bill Cosby.

Laid-back in a U-Mass college sweatshirt, Cosby talked about the highs and lows of his family life -- from an alcoholic father who didn't want "responsibility," to a mother who made sure the clothes were clean no matter how few clothes there were.

Cosby also issued a challenge to try to help parents whose kids need guidance, and not worry about what some reporter would say on radio or TV afterward.

He suggested a change in the lyrics to a popular James Brown song: "Get up, stay on the scene, like a studying machine!"

More than 2,000 people attended the gathering at the Peoria Civic Center.
