Economic Development Tops Galesburg City Council Agenda
As we reported first on WGIL, the Galesburg City Council will begin looking at how to do economic development without the group that essentially has done most of it for them over the years.

Aldermen Monday night are scheduled to have a work session on economic development, brought on by the Galesburg City Council voting several weeks ago to reject a new contract with the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association, and to terminate the current $75,000 a year deal effective in March.

City Manager Dane Bragg told W-G-I-L last week that he's asking aldermen to essentially prioritize what the city's economic development needs and purpose should be. He says they've been asked to rank the services they feel should be important.

Bragg says aldermen will later be asked to figure out which of those services can be provided by the city, and which should be handled by outside agencies.

That discussion will begin at 6:30 p-m Monday in council chambers at City Hall. The regular council meeting, which features a relatively light agenda, starts at 7:30.
