Impeachment Committee Member Says Work Was a Sacrifice
There's no way to put a dollar amount on the time you spend with your family -- or don't spend, when you have to change your plans. One member of the Illinois House Special Investigative Committee, which recommended the impeachment of Gov. Rod Blagojevich, says the job involved 8,000 pages of reading.

State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie), who says he is used to putting his law practice's clients on a back burner compared to his job as a legislator, says it's too bad lawmakers couldn't have taken the opportunity to help correct the state's financial problems, seeing as how the impeachment process brought them to the Capitol over the holidays.

State Rep. Bill Black (R-Danville) says he didn't count the pages, but he did weigh them, and it came out to 35 pounds. As for House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago), "Mr. Blagojevich has ruined a lot of my vacations, but that comes with the job," he said. "But you expect that when you get into public life – your hours are not your own."

Now it's the Senate with some previously unscheduled work. All 59 Senators serve as jurors for the governor's upcoming impeachment trial, which starts Monday.
