Local Fireman Retires After 26 Years With G.F.D.
A man who served his community for nearly three decades has officially stepped down from his job with the city.

Galesburg Fire Department Battalion Chief Craig Brady completed his final shift Sunday morning after 26 years of service with the department. Brady worked in many positions within the department, beginning as a fireman, then serving as an inspector, and his favorite position, an instructor.

Brady tells WGIL teaching at the fire department was something that meant a lot to him.

"I think the one I enjoyed the most was instructor. I like to teach, I like to talk, and it was fun. There was a lot of satisfaction in that job."

Brady came to Galesburg in the 1970's after earning his pilot and instructor's licenses in high school and took a job in an air traffic control tower. After the strike in the 1980's, he left the aviation industry and says he was fortunate to get hired on with the Galesburg Fire Department.

As for his retirement plans, Brady says hasn't written that chapter yet and he will do so as he goes. He says he plans to spend more time with his family, travel more, and says there are many options within the Galesburg community he'd like to explore. Brady says going back to school is also an option, saying that learning is something people should never stop doing.
