| Big Changes Coming to Your Television |
If you turn on your TV in a month, some of your regular channels may look a little different. That's because as of February 17th, all television stations and signals will be converted to a digital, instead of an analog, signal. The Federal Government recently required the switch to a digital signal, because the old analog signal was outdated, and paled in comparison to many television station signals around the world. Dick Lindstrom, owner of Lindstrom's TV & Appliance in Galesburg says many countries that we consider to be backwards, were way ahead of stations here in the United States. Lindstrom tells WGIL, depending on your TV setup, you may not even be affected by the changeover.
"If you have cable, you're just fine. If you have a satellite dish typically you're just fine - with a possible exception if you have your local stations on an antennae not through Direct TV than you would need to have a converter box." Lindstrom says the digital signal will provide people with a sharper picture and has no effect with TV's that already have an High Definition picture as long as the TV has a digital tuner. People with the old analog signal still coming into their homes will have to purchase a digital converter box, which runs on average about 50 dollars but are available with a discount coupon from the federal government.
