Galesburg Lumber Store to Close
A lumber yard that has been part of the Galesburg community for nearly a century will be closing by the end of next month.

The Alexander Lumber Company began it's business in 1912 and will be closing due to a number of factors. District Manager for the Galesburg yard Gary Bernahl says competition between other area lumber yards and tough economic times in the region are reasons for the closing when the decision came down from the corporate office located in Aurora.

Bernahl says the employees of the Galesburg lumberyard were offered transfers to two other area locations that include Woodhull and Monmouth when they found out the news of the closing late last week. The District Manager also said that those two locations will benefit from the closing of the local yard as contractors and customers will have to travel to those other locations for their products.

Alexander Lumberyard has over 20 locations in this state and has nearly ten locations that serve Wisconsin residents. Other area locations include Geneseo, Stronghurst, Rushville and Canton. Bernal says he doesn't know what will happen to the building on South Street after the lumberyard closes it's doors.
