Schock Part of Stimulus Bill Meeting With President
A local Congressman who was part of a meeting yesterday between members of the House and President Barack Obama says he was encouraged by that meeting.

18th District Republican Aaron Schock says he felt good by the vibe in the room -- thanks to both the demeanor of Obama, and the demeanor of his House Republican Conference colleagues after they discussed the proposed $800 billion economic stimulus package.

Schock, speaking to reporters on a conference call, says the problem is, Congress is being asked to vote on a stimulus bill likely today floated by Speaker Nancy Pelosi that just plain doesn't work. "(There are) over 200 amendments that have been filed with the Rules Committee, trying to get the stimulus bill better," Schock said. "Over 200 amendments, and over half of those -- meaning over 100 of them -- are Democrat amendments, meaning that (Speaker Nanci Pelosi's) own conference -- her own caucus, her own Democratic members -- are not happy with the stimulus bill."

In other words, Schock says Pelosi must not be practicing what she preaches, since he says she doesn't want any amendments to the bill and no discussion.

Schock calls that type of behavior "extremely disheartening."
