Online Sex Offender Database Approved for Knox County
A way to track and be notified of sex offenders in your neighborhood will soon be coming to Knox County. The Knox County Board Wednesday night unanimously approved to fund a web site program that informs and warns of potential predators near the homes of residents.

Residents would be able to log on to the web site and enter their home address and a list of area offenders, their crimes, and where they are currently residing. Captain Dave Caslin of the Knox County Sheriff's Department tells WGIL the site is user friendly and is a way to track offenders that could pose a safety issue.

"If you're a victim...you always want to make sure you always know where [the victim] lives," Caslin said. "Every time he makes a move, every time he becomes uncompliant, if there's anything that happens with him in the court system, you'll be notified."

Caslin says the start up cost would be $4,500 with an annual fee of $3,000 to fund the program. Rick Sandoval, district five representative of Knox County brought the issue to the board and says that this program makes sex offenders highly visible to parents and neighborhoods and also keeps people informed.

Caslin says the main purpose of this program is communication, they want to be able to communicate information to the public, and they want the public to be able to communicate with the Sheriff's Department.
