Moffitt: Time to Reform State Government is Now
A member of the Illinois House who paid close attention to the impeachment trial of Governor Rod Blagojevich says now that he's been thrown out of office, there's one thing lawmakers and the new Governor have to do now.

74th District State Representative Don Moffitt says it's incumbent on all lawmakers to do everything they can to restore faith in state government, making it more transparent so that abuses of power can't continue.

Moffitt tells WGIL in an interview broadcast live following Thursday's historic vote to oust Blagojevich, he believes the new Governor can do that. "Governor Quinn will work hard to restore confidence," Moffitt (R-Gilson) said. "I think he'll work hard to build consensus in the legislature. I think he'll work hard to be bi-partisan. Those are certainly the kind of things that are needed at this time."

Moffitt says that kind of effort will be needed, as lawmakers go into regular session next week to work on the other huge issue -- fixing the state budget.

Other local lawmakers are speaking out as well. Former State Representative, and now 18th District Congressman Aaron Schock, issued a statement saying that the "nightmare of Rod Blagojevich is not quite over," since he left state government "in shambles."

17th District Congressman Phil Hare accused Blagojevich of making a mockery of state government and says, "Good riddance."
