Galesburg Water Plant Construction Presses On Despite Weather Setbacks
The winter weather, so far, hasn't provided us with many favors, and that's certainly been the case with a major multi-million dollar City of Galesburg Project.

The Galesburg City Council recently got an update on the status of the construction of their new water treatment plant at the city's water source in Oquawka.

Canton-based Leander Construction Vice President of Field Operations Rick Roberts told aldermen that nine-months into the project, it's already 50-percent done.

Roberts says the sub-zero temperatures did slow down construction last month, but not as much as another major weather event several months prior did.

"The flood cost us about six weeks not being able to get concrete from Burlington (where concrete is being manufactured) to the (plant) site. We had a good production run after that. We felt we were able to gain some of that time back into the schedule."

Roberts says the scheduled completion date of May 2010 is still a possibility despite the weather setbacks.

He says crews are still trying to determine some potential impacts the flooding and Mississippi River water levels will have -- including where to locate a power transmission line that will go from the water wells to the new $20-million plant.

The city provides pictures every month of the construction progress at www.ci.galesburg.il.us/albums.htm.
