Burris: Next Senator "Shortly"
Roland Burris says he expects "very shortly" to represent the state of Illinois in the U.S. Senate.

The man appointed to the vacant seat by Gov. Rod Blagojevich says he expects resolution soon of the remaining issues standing in the way of his taking the spot last held by President-elect Barack Obama.

Earlier Wednesday, after a meeting with Burris, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said the Senate is waiting for a court ruling on whether the Illinois secretary of state is required to sign a certification before Burris can take office. Senate leaders are also waiting for Burris to testify Thursday before a panel of Illinois state legislators looking into the impeachment of Blagojevich.
