Impeachment Committee Hears About Alleged Illegal Hiring
Hiring scandals were detailed Wednesday afternoon, as the Illinois House Impeachment Committee pored through an inspector general's report on politically-connected hires. The 2004 report by inspector "Z" Scott references eight jobs at the Illinois Department of Employment Security that the report says were filled only with people who had sponsors in the governor's office.

One job was actually for the Human Services Advisory Council, which didn't exist anymore. Another position paid more because the applicant was fluent in sign language, although the worker admitted to the inspector that she only took a one-week class as a kid. The report also calls out jobs that should have been open to military veterans, but the locations or job duties were altered so that no veterans would show up on a list of folks who passed state tests.

The committee's draft document is reportedly several dozen pages long, and doesn't include any surprises. That report could be released as early as Thursday afternoon, especially if the FBI tapes are not released, and the committee could take a vote minutes later.
