Imepeachment Committee Meets Today, Federal Wiretaps Request Could Come Today
When the Illinois House Impeachment Committee meets this (Thursday) afternoon, it'll hear testimony from U.S. Senate appointee Roland Burris. The committee wanted to hear from Burris Wednesday, but he was in Washington meeting with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).

Burris sent impeachment committee chairwoman Barbara Flynn Currie a sworn affidavit this week outlining the conversations he had with Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his attorney Sam Adam Jr., and Currie doesn't think Burris's testimony will be any different from what's on the affidavit.

Still, Currie isn't sure whether the committee's work will be finished by the time the 95th General Assembly retires and the 96th is sworn in next week. She suggests keeping the door open for new information should it come out, meaning a new impeachment committee could be put in place.

Some lawmakers on the committee think there is enough evidence against the governor to impeach him, and want things to move along as quickly as possible.

Also today. the Federal Court in Chicago will decide whether to release the FBI wiretaps of the governor's phone conversations.
