Davies Announces Monmouth Mayor Re-Election Bid
The mayor of Monmouth says a lot of good has been done during his first four-years in office, and he wants to continue that success.

Rod Davies has issued a statement saying he will be seeking his second term as Monmouth's top elected official this coming April. The Monmouth native and graduate of both Monmouth High School and Monmouth College says economic development has flourished, and financial stability and infrastructure improvements have succeeded during his term.

Davies used his statement to cite developments like the new Taco Bell restaurant and the AmericInn among others as successes in economic development, and pointed to a retail analysis done by Texas-based firm Buxton as the reason a company like Walgreens has decided to locate in the Maple City as well.

He says the city was able to get on a good financial footing during his tenure despite some, quote, "rough spots", and that property taxes have been reasonably stable for residents.

Davies also pointed to the controversial decision to veto the original proposal for a public safety building, saving $2.5 million, while resulting in the near-completion of two new buildings.

The city is also building a new $15 million waste water treatment plant that Davies says is a success as well.

Davies is the first candidate to announce a run for mayor in Monmouth. He's married and has two children, and is a partner in a Monmouth accounting firm.
