Knox County Health Department Receives State Money
The State of Illinois is starting to do something it hasn't exactly been known for lately -- paying some of its bills.

The Knox County Health Department has finally begun to receive some of the money it's owed from the state for some of the services and programs it provides -- thanks in part, health department administrator Greg Chance says, through the recent sale of bonds.

Chance told the Board of Health at last night's meeting that the health department received a good chunk of change from the state. "We've received $344,000 in revenue since December first," Chance said. "Most of that came within the last three weeks. In fact, we deposited -- in the first week of January -- over $260,000."

Chance says the department also received half of its local health protection grant, which totaled 52,000 dollars, and 100 percent of its rural health grant totaling 75,000 dollars. Chance says the department has to be cautious with its discretionary spending because the money that Illinois raised through the sale of the bonds has to be paid back before June. Chance, though, says he feels better about the cash flow now versus last month.
