Governor Impeached
It didn't take long to make history Friday in Illinois. The House voted 114-1, with one present and one absent, to impeach Gov Rod Blagojevich.

The members, acting upon a Special Investigative Committee report, relied on what the report and its authors called the totality of the evidence -- that the Governor's management style and refusal to follow the rules of the Illinois Constitution and General Assembly -- from making appropriations for health care to buying unapproved foreign flu vaccines -- snowballed into impeachment.

The hearing in the House lasted not even ninety minutes. The no vote came from State Rep. Milt Patterson (D-Chicago). The present vote came from State Rep. Elga Jefferies (D-Chicago). State Rep Ken Dunkin (D-Chicago) was absent.

There is one vacancy in the House because of the recent death of State Rep. Wyvetter Younge (D-East St Louis). Her seat has not yet been filled.

Blagojevich will hold a news conference at 2pm in Chicago to respond to the vote. Hear the news conference live on WGIL and WGIL.COM.
