Senate Candidate Hopes to "WOW" Voters
A candidate for U.S. Senate is encouraging women to get involved.

Democrat Cheryle Jackson is calling on women to empower women. Her effort is WOW, Women Organizing Women.

"Women, all of us, need to stand up and harness our power to organize to make a difference in the lives of youth in crisis, women in crisis and families in crisis," Jackson told a group of about 40 women Friday in Chicago. "We need to come together in every city and every town and demand resources that improve education, provide essential health care and counseling, jobs and training. Women need to take the lead to give young people and women hope and a path to success and empowerment."

Jackson plans on organizing WOW house parties and utilizing social media to get her message out. While she talks about her campaign and WOW in the same breath, Jackson says WOW stands on its own.

Jackson is also compiling short stories from women across the state to be made into a book. "WOW! Me" will be unveiled on Jan. 26. The stories will focus on how a woman has made a difference in the author's life or community.

The submission deadline is Tuesday (Jan. 12). More information can be found online at www.cheryle2010.com.
