Early Voting Starts Monday
Early voting begins Monday, and extends through Jan. 28.

State Board of Elections Executive Director Dan White says the popularity of early voting has grown each year since it was initiated in 2006. Nearly 1 million people took advantage of early voting in the 2008 general election.

In order to cast an early ballot, people should visit their local election authority. In many places, that means the county clerk's office. You can request an absentee ballot -- without having to give a reason -- if you prefer to vote by mail.

Grace period registration is also available for those who missed the Jan. 5 deadline. Grace period registration is a week longer than 2008 and runs through Jan. 26. A person who registers during that time, however, is not able to participate in early voting.
