Comptroller Releases Prison Release Information
State Comptroller Dan Hynes, running in the Democratic primary for governor, has dug up some information that he says the governor won't release.

Hynes says he has filed two Freedom of Information requests with the Department of Corrections for details on the 1,700 prisoners released early. He has received responses from neither, but he says his campaign staff pieced together information on the offenses those released early were in for:

* 21 with murder-related offenses (murder of varying degrees, attempted murder)
* 20 with "sexual offenses"
* 60 domestic battery
* 90 aggravated battery
* 57 aggravated or armed robbery
* 63 robbery
* 251 aggravated DUI
* 127 DUI

Hynes is seeking the names and hometowns of each offender, as well as his or her offense, original sentence, and actual time served.

Hynes says a number of those released from prison early have since committed new crimes and are back in custody. What's not clear is how many of these offenders would have been out of prison now anyway, even without early release.

Gov. Pat Quinn says he hasn't seen the information requests. He has suspended the Meritorious Good Time program under which these prisoners were let out.
