State of State Speech Wednesday -- LIVE COVERAGE ON WGIL AND WGIL.COM
Wednesday's State of the State speech could be a campaign talk, a re-hash of recent remarks, or a solution to the devastating state budget debacle. That's according to state lawmakers. Gov. Pat Quinn begins the speech at noon.

Republicans expect Quinn to use the speech to help his position in the upcoming primary election. State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine), who's running for lieutenant governor, says Quinn will use this as an opportunity to gain votes. But State Rep. John Bradley (D-Marion), who is a Quinn supporter, says Quinn will lay out all the difficult things that state government must do to help the state's ailing budget. Bradley says the state needs someone who will tell the truth, rather than do what's politically safe.

It'll be a short week for lawmakers. Both the House and Senate have cancelled the Thursday sessions, so lawmakers can head for home right after the speech, not to return until after the primary.
