Lawmakers Don't Mind Quinn Not Using a TelePrompTer for State of State Speech
Rank-and-file state lawmakers disagree over much of what Gov. Pat Quinn said in his State of the State speech, but they agree on one thing: They found it impressive that Quinn spoke from hand-written notes, and with a TelePrompTer.

State Sen. James Clayborne (D-Belleville) and State Rep. Barbra Flynn Currie (D-Chicago) applauded the speech, saying Quinn is trying to rally everyone to work together. They also say they're not worried about a lack of detail about money, because that will come in the budget speech.

Republicans are quick to criticize the speech, however. State Rep. Keith Sommer (R-Morton) and State Sen. Tim Bivens (R-Dixon) wanted details, and complain that the governor didn't talk about the massive budget deficit until the waning moments of the speech.

Many lawmakers are frustrated that Quinn focused on actions from the last year, when this would have been the time to lay out his vision for this year.
