GOP Candidates for Governor Would Repeal Tax Increases
All seven Republicans running for governor vow to repeal any tax increase that is imposed this year.

The question was raised in a debate Wednesday night sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Better Government Association. The candidates jumped on the opportunity to promise repeal, though none had previously made repeal of any increases a campaign issue.

"Absolutely, I will work to repeal it, and hope that it won't happen," said State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington).

DuPage County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom: "I'm opposed to a tax increase, and if taxes are increased, I will work to roll them back."

Andy McKenna says it's important to fight a tax increase this year, which Republicans and some Democrats did successfully when Gov. Pat Quinn wanted to raise taxes last year. Dan Proft says taxes must be cut next year whether or not they're raised this year.

Gov. Pat Quinn in his State of the State speech on Wednesday said the state needs more revenue.
