Illinis Player Acquitted in Bar Fight
URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- A jury has acquitted a University of Illinois football player charged with aggravated battery in a bar fight on campus last year.

Police said they arrested sophomore Mike Garrity after he hit Tom Miller in the face with the heel of his hand at Kam's bar in May. Miller was hospitalized for six days with a broken nose and skull fracture. According to court testimony, he also still has trouble hearing in his right ear.

Prosecutor Lindsey Clark argued that the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Garrity didn't have a reason to hit Miller. Miller is 6-feet tall and weighs 150 pounds.

Defense attorney Steve Beckett said Garrity thought the intoxicated Miller would hit him.

Witnesses say Miller was annoying bar patrons and argued with at least two other men at the bar.
