Illinois Veteran Assembles Book to Teach Children About Korean War
DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Some Illinois veterans are trying to make sure the Korean War is no longer known as "the forgotten war."

Members of the Illinois Korean Memorial Association have put together a softcover 56-page book called "Korea, the Forgotten War." It contains a brief history of the war, numerous photographs, statistics, maps and stories.

The Korean War lasted from June 1950 to July 1953. It's known as the "forgotten war" because it followed so quickly after World War II and then was overshadowed by the Vietnam War.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the start of the Korean War, veterans are distributing the books across Illinois. Veteran C.I. Greenwood of Springfield says 25,000 books have been printed and more than 1,200 schools and 700 libraries in the state will get some.
