Jesse White Endorses Giannoulias
In the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, Alexi Giannoulias gets the endorsement of Secretary of State Jesse White.

White made the endorsement as the state treasurer discussed the need to get students interested in science, engineering and technology. "Math and science has not been where it should be, and with his efforts, we believe that our young people are gonna become better educated and better informed, and be able to compete worldwide," White said.

Falling behind other countries will be a problem, Giannoulias says. It has already begun, with China topping the U.S. when it comes to patents for renewable energy, and the slide must be stopped or our economy will not recover.

Giannnoulias is unveiling a proposal to offer scholarships to attract science and technology teachers for kindergarten through 12th grade, to provide funding for university research and development, and to encourage businesses to offer apprenticeships in science, engineering and technology.

Giannoulias announced his proposals and received White's endorsement Sunday afternoon at a school in Chicago.
