Donkey Basketball to Go On in Streator
STREATOR, Ill. (AP) -- Despite a protest from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, authorities at Streator Township High School say their planned game of donkey basketball will go on as scheduled.

Participants from various community groups plan to ride donkeys on the court Wednesday night at the school's Pops Dale Gymnasium.

While similar fundraising events have been going on since the 1930s, PETA wants it stopped. On its Web site, the group asked residents to contact Superintendent Kevin Myers to urge him to cancel the event and replace it with an activity that does not involve live animals.

But Myers says the only complaints he has received have been from a PETA representative. He says the district has sold 500 tickets and expects to sell 200 more by game time.
