Central Illinois VFW Faces Foreclosure
LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) -- A central Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars hall could soon close because it can't pay its mortgage.

Quartermaster Vince Long says VFW Post 1756 in Lincoln owes $20,000 and is three months behind on its payments.

The post borrowed almost $200,000 a few years ago to renovate the hall and expand its parking lot. Until recently, people renting the hall for wedding receptions and other events helped pay the bill.

But post members say rentals have dried up with the slumping economy.

Long says the post plans a fundraiser on Jan. 30 to try to come up with the money.

The local VFW is known as the Cronin Bothers post. It was chartered in 1929 and named after two brothers killed in World War I.
