FIRST ON WGIL: Abingdon, Avon, B-PC Feasibility Study to be Presented Next Week
FIRST REPORTED 11:00am 1/20/10 Three school districts exploring reorganization possibilities with each other will find out the results of a feasibility study in a week.

The study, which took several months to complete, was conducted by three professors from the University of Illinois at Springfield - headed up by Dr. Bill Phillips - for the Abingdon, Avon and Bushnell-Prairie City school districts.

The three school boards signed off on the study last August after Avon Superintendent Dan Oakley invited officials from the Abingdon and Bushnell-Prairie City school districts to participate in reorganization talks in the fall of 2008.

Two members of the Avon School Board told Abingdon School board members in August of last year that Avon High School's enrollment was rapidly declining and that the three communities share many of the same goals and values, and they have more similarities than differences.

Abingdon Superintendent Dr. Tami Roskamp says the study began as a result of the three school districts exploring new ways to offer high quality curriculum programs for students in their communities in a fiscally responsible manner.

The joint meeting will be held next Thursday at 7:30 p-m in the Avon High School gymnasium. Everyone is invited to attend.
