FIRST ON WGIL: Sunday Morning House Fire Deemed Suspicious
FIRST REPORTED 8:00am, UPDATED 11:25am 1/24/10 Galesburg Firefighters and police are continuing to look into an early Sunday morning blaze that caused damage to a local home.

Interim Fire Chief Tom Simkins says crews were called to what was thought to be an unoccupied two-story home at 363 West Fourth Street around 3am Sunday, where he says firefighters found a heavy fire in the front of the home.

Simkins says the blaze was brought under control in about 15 minutes, but crews remained on scene for about an hour and a half.

Simkins says it's not clear how the fire started, but investigators believe it to be suspicious, and that police and fire officials are still investigating.

Simkins says a live power line had burned off the home and fallen in the front yard by the time crews arrived, making for some tricky work until Ameren could shut off the connection.

No one was hurt. Simkins says the front of the home sustained heavy fire damage, while the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage.
