Man Testifies That Drew Peterson's Offer Meant Murder
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- An acquaintance of Drew Peterson contends the former Bolingbrook police sergeant offered him $25,000 to find somebody to have his ex-wife "taken care of."

Jeffrey Pachter testified Thursday at a pretrial hearing to determine what hearsay evidence can be admitted at Drew Peterson's upcoming trial on charges that accuse him of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Pachter says Peterson never used the word "murder," but that's how he understood the offer. Pachter acknowledged in court he's a convicted sex offender.

Pachter says Peterson suggested he'd create an alibi for himself if Pachter would tell him in advance when the job would be carried out.

Pachter says he never found anyone to do the job.

Peterson has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in Savio's 2004 death.
