Schock Says Obama Needs to Live Up to State of the Union Message
A Republican Congressman who represents a portion of Knox County says if President Obama lives up to Wednesday night's State of the Union message, as heard live on WGIL, it would be a turnaround from how he's run the country his first year in office.

18th District Congressman Aaron Schock says the President talked about things that, the way he sees it, weren't done the first year in office.

"If he's serious about changing course, if he's serious about moving to the middle, if he's serious about decreasing spending, passing trade agreements to put people to work in our state -- which will help agriculture and manufacturing -- if he's serious about cutting taxes on small businesses to incentivise growth and entrepreneurialism, then I stand ready to help," Schock said.

The Peoria resident says he was surprised that the President didn't talk more about health care since it's been hotly debated in Congress for nearly a year.

In a statement issued after the speech, Schock's neighbor, 17th District Democrat Phil Hare, says while Obama said a lot of good, the people just don't want talk, they want things done. Hare says he was glad to hear that the President is looking at more small business investment and clean energy.
