Obama Mentions Galesburg in State of the Union -- LINK TO COMMENTS HERE
One of the first places for then-State Senator Barack Obama to campaign when he was first running for the U.S. Senate got a few seconds of recognition in now-President Barack Obama's first State of the Union speech.

In the address heard live on WGIL Wednesday night, Obama used the first part to talk about economic recovery, and says he knows about some of the trouble people face: working longer hours for less pay, and not being able to afford to send their kids to college.

That's when Obama mentioned "The Burg" and another community that's suffered through similar job loss problems as Galesburg.

"These struggles are the reason I ran for President," Obama said. "These struggles are what I've witnessed for years in places like Elkhart, Indiana, (and) Galesburg, Illinois. I hear about them in the letters that I read each night."

Obama, as expected, said job creation would be his first priority. He also touched on potential budget spending freezes, bringing every troop home soon from both warfronts, and hoping Congress can stop being divided so that the nation's problems can be solved.
