| Galesburg IRS Office Open Saturday |
The Internal Revenue Service office in Galesburg will be open on Saturday, January 30 as well as February 6th and the 20th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The IRS is offering assistance to taxpayers who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit and may not be able to come in during the work week. The Galesburg IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center is located at 2066 Windish Drive.
The Earned Income Tax Credit is a refundable credit for people who work but do not earn high incomes.
Families with incomes less than $48,279 may be eligible for a maximum EITC of $5,657. Taxpayers without children and incomes under $18,440 may qualify for an EITC of up to $457. The amount of the credit varies but is generally determined by income and family size.
IRS personnel will be available to answer taxpayers' questions, offer additional information about the EITC and help prepare returns claiming the credit.
Be sure to bring all the documents needed to prepare the tax return, including:
- Valid driver's license or photo ID
- Social Security cards and Dates of Birth for all people to be listed on the return
- All income statements (Forms W-2 and 1099, Social Security and unemployment benefit statements, self-employment records and any documents showing taxes withheld)
- Dependent child care information
- Proof of account at financial institution for direct debit or deposit (e.g. canceled check or bank statement)
- Prior year tax return (if available)
-Any other documents needed to prepare the return. For more information about the EITC and to find out if you qualify, visit the IRS Web site at www.irs.gov. Check out the EITC Assistant, the online tool to help taxpayers determine EITC eligibility.
