Knox County Health Department Recognizes Food Safety
The Knox County Health Department announces that 19 licensed food service establishments are being recognized under the Health Department's Food Safety Excellence Program for their performance during 2009. This is the fourth year the Knox County Health Department has recognized facilities in Knox County that exceed food service sanitation standards as established by the Knox County Board of Health.

The recipients were formally recognized by Board of Health President, Jeanne Harland during their monthly meeting on January 14, 2010. "This is one of the largest groups of recipients that the Board of Health has recognized since the program's inception, the Board is pleased to see the Award Program grow as it has," Harland said.

Criteria for the award include requirements such as the provision of employee training, having no critical violations reported for the previous year, a minimum score of 90 on all inspection during the previous calendar year, and established food temperature monitoring programs. "The full criteria that licensed food service establishments must meet in order to qualify for the Food Safety Excellence Award are really quite stringent," Wil Hayes, Director of Health Protection said. "The facilities that we are recognizing have worked hard. They are truly deserving of recognition for their dedication to the public's health."

The 19 recipients of the Food Safety Excellence Award received a plaque and certificate from the Knox County Board of Health, as well as a static sticker used to identify recognized establishments to the public; award winners are also recognized on the Health Department website.
