Dillard Suspends Campaigning After Father's Death
CHICAGO (AP) -- One of the candidates for Illinois governor has lost his father and is canceling his weekend campaign activities.

Republican Kirk Dillard says he will be spending time with his mother and other relatives after the death of his 82-year-old father.

Edward Dillard was a former high school teacher and baseball coach. The senator said his father died at home after battling colon cancer and a broken hip.

Kirk Dillard said that even though his father had been in poor health, the death still came as a shock.

Dillard had been on a campaign tour of downstate cities leading up to Tuesday's primary election.
