Gov Candidate Says Corrections Chief Must Go
A state senator and Republican candidate for governor is calling for the dismissal of the head of the Illinois Department of Corrections.

State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) is calling on Gov. Pat Quinn to fire Corrections director Michael P. Randle.

Brady says Randle acted inappropriately in releasing "violent" prison inmates early. Last week Quinn revealed that prisoners were released under the Meritorious Good Time program that gave credit up-front for good behavior. Some of those sentenced were released after as few as 11 days.

"The governor himself called the program 'a big mistake,' but is still allowing Mike Randle to keep his job," Brady said. "Someone needs to be held accountable to the public and more importantly, the victims of these offenders."

Brady says violent offenders should never be released early. Fifty-six of the prisoners who were released early as part of the MGT program are already back in prison.

Besides Randle's firing, Brady is also calling on Quinn to post the names and other information of those who were released early on the internet so victims will know that the offenders are back on the street.
