Springfield Institute May Need to Move
Kids from all across the state who live and go to school at the Hope Institute in Springfield may have to move. The Hope Institute is announcing a $6 million renovation project made possible because of state government approval. But it's coupling that announcement with a plea for a local township to give up a road for the sake of the school.

The children who live and go to school at Hope have multiple and severe disabilities, and are medically fragile, meaning the need to call for an ambulance is high.

Hope Institute President Joe Nyre says he wants Hope to stay in Springfield, but is confirming that he's talking to other communities about moving, because he says having a second access road is critical to the safety of the students. The entrance to Hope is hilly, and ironically largely ice-covered this week, and has been impossible to drive on for emergency vehicles during two recent incidents of bad weather

Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin supports a move to annex the road, which is currently under the jurisdiction of Woodside Township. He hopes the city council approves such a proposal. But because the city's looking at annexing only the road, and not any homes, the township has to approve too. Nyre hopes to have a decision by the end of the month, or he says he'll being calling other cities.
