Knoxville Alderman Wants to See Progress
A member of the Knoxville City Council believes growth is in Knoxville's future and the city would be wise to prepare for it.

Jim Eastwood at Monday night's city council meeting talked about updating the city's website and other efforts in the works to bring people to Knoxville, but he says the city needs to be ready.

Eastwood told the council that it's important to look long-term.

"I think the city should have some type of a 25-year plan," Eastwood said, "that we break down into five-year need goals."

Eastwood says the current economic recession won't last forever and the city needs to have plans in place so it doesn't drop the ball.

Eastwood said at the last meeting that the Illinois Patriot Guard plans to hold a meeting in August at the Knox County Fairgrounds. He says that'll bring over 1,500 people the city, which will provide a nice economic boost. He says if all goes well in August, the guard might want to meet annually at the fairgrounds and it could even lead to the national meeting in Knoxville.

Among the action items, the city council voted unanimously told hold future meetings at the police department. Aldermen mentioned the ability to control the heating and cooling there and better acoustics as advantages to meeting at the police department on a regular basis.
