AP Exclusive: Early Release Inmantes Returned for Attempted Murder, Weapons, Battery
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn said last week that 48 people released under a secret early prison release program are back behind bars after violating parole rules.

What he didn't say was that the broken rules include allegations of attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery.

An Associated Press review of official and internal Corrections Department records shows at least 17 people face new allegations of violence.

Quinn halted the secret "MGT Push" practice and announced prison reforms last week.

He acknowledged 56 of the 1,700 inmates released early were back in prison -- eight serving sentences for new crimes and 48 having violated parole rules.

Spokesman Bob Reed says Quinn was told only that the 48 had violated parole, not the nature of the offenses.
