Space Heater Blamed for Garage Fire on Bluebird Drive
FIRST REPORTED AT 6:00 A-M 1/8/10 Galesburg Fire Department officials are sending out a word of warning after an accidental fire caused damage to a home and its garage.

Galesburg Fire Battalion Chief Chip Timmons says crews were called to a home in the 1700 block of Bluebird Drive around 4:30 Thursday afternoon. Timmons says investigators believe the use of a space heater in the home's attached garage caused the fire.

Timmons says crews got the fire under control within 30 minutes but remained on scene for about two hours as a precaution.

He says it's likely the person using the space heater forgot about it and left it on for an extended period of time.

No one was hurt. Timmons says only the garage sustained fire damage, but the home sustained smoke damage.
