Snow Snarls Central IL Traffic, Closes Schools
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Snowfall has snarled traffic and closed some schools across central Illinois.

Several inches of snow were on the ground early Tuesday across the central part of the state, from Peoria to Champaign. And National Weather Service forecasters say more is expected.

Police reported numerous minor accidents and slow going. One motorist died early Tuesday in a crash in Sydney, near Champaign. But the Champaign County sheriff's office wasn't sure if the weather was to blame.

In Peoria, the Journal Star reported that traffic was backed up for miles on the McClugage Bridge over the Illinois River by stalled cars. The newspaper says some of its deliveries were late because of slick roads, too.

Elsewhere, schools closed in Mattoon, Charleston and a handful of other east-central Illinois towns.
