Man dies on Snowy Highway; Some Schools Close
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- An eastern Illinois man is dead after an accident on a snowy interstate, and the weather has led to a second day of scattered school closures and traffic problems.

Illinois State Police say 53-year-old Richard Sharp of Neoga died from injuries suffered in an accident late Tuesday night on Interstate 57 just north of Mattoon. Sharp's truck was struck by a tractor trailer.

State and local police say they continued to respond to a number of accidents on I-57 and other roads Wednesday morning.

Some mostly rural schools in east-central Illinois were also closed Wednesday after up to 5 inches fell a day earlier.

The snow has stopped falling, but the National Weather Service says gusty winds and single digit low temperatures overnight are expected to create more problems.
