CSC Deals with Attendance Policy
Carl Sandburg College has changed its attendance police, and while the college refers to it as a "mandatory" attendance policy, it might be more beneficial to students who may change their mind about classes they sign up for.

The college will now withdraw any student who does not show up for class the first week of the semester, and refund them tuition. Previously, students likely received grades of "F" they didn't withdraw from, and were liable for more tuition if financial aid had to be cancelled.

CSC Financial Aid Director Lisa Hanson tells WGIL the old policy didn't do students who've been away for awhile any favors.

"The issue came up through our counseling staff who were advising students who wanted to come back to school and had multiple obstacles in front of them and so you know from a school perspective we were completing the regulation appropriately but it was causing issues for students and looking at that and trying to find out, you know, what would be the best course of action for students, we felt that this would resolve the students issues."

Hanson says students who take classes self-paced and online courses need to start the first week like everyone else and take part in the discussion, or work out any concerns with their instructors.

She says there are things that can be worked out if students can't attend the first week due to emergency or extenuating circumstances.
