YMCA Shows Off New Facilities
They've gotten some use already, but the Knox County YMCA is officially touting its brand new facilities, paid for with the Y's second capital fundraising campaign in less than a decade.

The Y Tuesday held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the over two-million dollars in additions to the Y, which include a new gym, fitness center, and a newly re-dedicated swimming pool, along with some associated equipment.

Y Executive Director Linus Vander Wyst says the expansion is allowing the Y to once again expand a membership base that not so long ago wasn't all that large.

"With the timing of the addition, we're going to quickly approach 7,000 members and our new goal, retain 7,000 members here. That's quite a difference from 3,500 people just seems like a few short years ago that we have here."

A new soccer complex is also almost ready as part of the additions, but a formal dedication of those will take place in May.

Among the changes, the Y's pool is now officially named after the late businessman Guy Vitale, and the new gym is named after the McBride Family.

WGIL's parent company was listed as giving one of the lead gifts for the expansions.
